- This archive contains:
- - MagicEye - the program with its icon
- - MagicEye.doc - this document with its icon
- - stereogram_hires.ilbm - 2-color generated stereogram
- - stereogram_superhires.ilbm - 2-color stereogram for AGA
- - exampleX.ilbm - three IFF ILBM pictures to convert
-
- »»» What is a stereogram?
-
- It is a pseudo-3D picture. The half-random pixels put on the
- screen in a special way 'cheat' Your mind, so You can see a
- three-dimensional picture with no special glasses.
- To see the 3D effect look BEHIND the monitor (no! not at its
- back - look THROUGH it, like if You'd like to see what's inside the
- magic crystal :). Beginners may try to move the head very close to the
- monitor and slowly move backward.
- BE PATIENT! For some people it may be difficult. But You can do
- it! The effect is worth the effort. =:[ ]
-
- »»» What does MagicEye do?
-
- It loads IFF ILBM picture (not HAM, HAM8, or IFF24) and converts
- it to stereogram. The picture may be of any size. MagicEye will
- resize it to full-screen display.
- You can have 8 layers (depths) on Your stereogram in hires
- mode, or 16 layers in superhires (AGA only). The depth of each
- pixel is calculated from the Red color value of the input picture.
- It means that if You want to have some graphic on the first layer of
- the stereogram it should be drawn on the input picture with the
- color having the Red value set to 15 ($0f). The farer from You, the
- lower the value (0 means the 'background'). See examples for
- details. If the input picture is created on AGA Amiga, the 256-step
- Red value will be divided by 16 (255 means 15, the closest layer).
- MagicEye generates hires (640*256) or superhires (1280*256),
- 16-colors IFF ILBM stereogram pictures. These pictures may be
- printed or edited with Your favorite paint program - You can change
- the palette, or reduce the number of colors down to two (see example
- stereograms).
- Stereograms generated by MagicEye 1.4 are based on random-dot
- 'pattern'. Future versions will allow to load IFF brush instead of
- the random pattern.
-
- »»» How to use MagicEye 1.4?
-
- You can run it from Workbench by clicking on its icon, or from
- Shell by typing:
-
- MagicEye <input picture>
-
- (the 'input picture' argument is not obligatory)
-
- Choose the input picture with Reqtools requester (press
- 'ReqSelect' button) or by typing it (with full path) into the 'File
- Name:' gadget. Press or depress the 'SuperHires' button - depending
- on the stereogram resolution you want to obtain, and press 'Load'.
- MagicEye will load the picture, generate and display the stereogram.
- It will disappear after pressing LMB. You can see it again (in
- different colors) after pressing the 'Show' gadget.
- To save the stereogram change the 'File Name:' either with
- requester or 'by hand' and DOUBE CLICK the 'Save' button.
-
- MagicEye 1.4 was written 100% in Assembler, so it's *damn* fast.
- It should work on any Amiga (AGA chipset is recommended for better
- 3D effect).
-
- »»» Known bugs:
- - MagicEye 1.4 doesn't correctly display the superhires picture,
- although IT SAVES THEM CORRECTLY
- - It's not very OS30-friendly
- - Email, if You find sth more... :)
-
- »»» Future improvements (for registered users):
- - Superhires display
- - Palette edit
- - uploading brushes instead of random-dots pattern
- - Different sizes of stereograms
- - Better user interface
-
- Have fun with MagicEye! Email me if You create some REALLY GREAT
- stereograms!
